OPERATION: PIANO RESTORATION

The two pianos are "golden era", concert level pianos. One is a 5' 7" grand piano that will be fully restored in an black satin finish. The second is a upright piano with a burled walnut Victorian case. The idea is to have the grand available for people who can afford the space of a grand piano in their home, and the upright is for those where space is at a premium in the home. Both pianos will be restored to "as new" condition with new hand rubbed finishes, new strings, and new action parts.
As mentioned earlier, the pianos will be restored, under my supervision and direction by the Logos students! Here are some of the tasks by groups:
K-3 grades: Dis-assembly of the piano cases (turning little screws), action parts, de-stringing the pianos, minor sanding, and some assembling.
4-6 grades: Sanding, some assembly of parts, etc.
7-9 grades: Sanding, filling the grain, helping me with the stringing process, and assembly of parts, helping the younger children.
10-12 grades: Stripping the cases, some patching, filling the grain, rubbing out the cases, assembly, helping the younger children.
The dads and the older students would be responsible to get to my shop anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturdays beginning October 29th. The younger children will probably only work for an hour or two and the parents are welcome to stay and help/fellowship. The secondary students could work longer, as stripping and filling the grain takes hours at a time to do. Most of the work by the students will be done in the months of October, November, February and March. As the year progresses, arrangements and adjustments could be made as schedules and workloads change. James Urquidez, another Logos dad, and Daniel Southwell has graciously agreed to help me facilitate the work at the shop. Periodically, we will be taking pictures and video documenting the progress so we can have a presentation of the process to begin the evening of the concert.
Please bring the children to the shop in work/play clothes, and don't forget to sign the "release of liability" forms and send them to school with your children. I look forward to getting to know you and your children as we tackle these two pianos!

Many thanks go out to Phil and Heather Rheingans of Hall Closet for graciously donating all of the T-shirts for the Logos kids to wear for Operation: Piano Restoration!  Another incentive to get out on Saturdays and help out.  Check it out!
